Servers
The plug-in
can delete spam on the server by headers using a list of POP3 accounts. One of
the following filtering modes can be applied to account:
- Filter messages on server by headers, then on client. First,
the plug-in downloads the headers from the server and tries to delete unwanted
messages from server. Then the email client downloads the remaining messages
and they are filtered by the plug-in using their full content.
- Filter messages on server only. In that mode the plug-in
filters only explicit spam by headers and deletes the unwanted messages from
server. The remaining messages are passed without filtering on the client.
- Filter messages on client only. In that mode the plug-in
filters the downloaded messages only.
- Do not filter the messages received from this server. In
that mode all messages received from the specified server will be marked as
non-spam.
A list of POP3 accounts can be filled manually or automatically, if an option
"Add new accounts automatically" is on. In that case the plug-in will
analyse the data, transmitted through unprotected POP3 connections.
The accounts with secured connections (SSL) must be added manually. The plug-in
can delete spam using secure connections, but it can't detect the account settings
automatically in that case.
The spam can be deleted from accounts manually or automatically. An option "Check-up
the accounts automatically, on receiving new mail" turns on the automatic
deletion. The plug-in tries to find the corresponding accounts from a list at
the moment when email client creates new connection. Then it optionally executes
the checking procedure for all found accounts. In that moment the original connections,
created by email client, are in suspended state. If some of the mailboxes contain
a lot of messages, then the checking procedure may take a long time. For avoiding
breaking the POP3 connection by timeout you can set the server timeout in account
properties as large value (e.g. 6000 seconds or more).
The plug-in optionally displays a progress of checking headers on servers in a
special window.
Important notes:
- On adding new account automatically the plug-in knows only IP address of the
server and tries to detect its name using DNS query. But sometimes it is impossible
to determine the domain name from IP address. IP address will be taken as server
name in that case. For making the filtering modes to work properly you have to
edit the account data manually and enter the real domain name in account settings.
- If an option for checking the accounts automatically is off, then this procudure
can be executed from Servers page of the main configuration window or using a
shortcut key (use "Options"->"Set chortcuts..."->"Delete
spam on server" for setting a shortcut).
- The filtering mode "Do not filter the messages received from this server"
applies to the whole server, i.e. to all accounts on that server. If you have
several accounts on some server, then take into a consideration that if you set
this mode to one of the accounts, it will be applied to all mailboxes on that
server.
- The plug-in can detect automatically the accounts that use non-secure port 110
(POP3). The accounts with different ports and secure connections must be added
manually.
